How To Keep Your Skin From Drying Out

Beauty 101: How To Keep Your Skin From Drying Out.

Dry skin is a major nuisance that can lead to cracking, peeling, itching, and discomfort. If you’re struggling to maintain moisture in your skin, consider changing your skin care habits. By properly nourishing your skin you can combat dry skin and prevent it from returning! Read on for five easy and effective beauty tips to keep your skin from drying out...

1. Moisturize Regularly

Moisturize your skin twice a day to make sure it’s getting a regular infusion of softening ingredients. Choose an oil-based moisturizer in winter to help your skin retain moisture when the air is dry. In summer, you can opt for a water-based solution that’s lighter on your skin’s surface.

Look for naturally hydrating oils like chamomile, jojoba, and lavender among the ingredients. Avoid anything with petroleum, as this will actually dry out your skin. The best time to moisturize is right after a shower, to lock moisture in and remember to use a facial moisturizer after you cleanse in the morning and at night.

2. Exfoliate Gently

You should avoid over-exfoliation with dry skin, as this will only make the problem worse. However, a gentle exfoliating scrub will get rid of dead skin cells that are sitting on the surface and relieve that dry, itchy feeling. Choose a scrub with a nourishing oil such as St. Ives Moisturizing Oil Scrub. You can also create your own DIY scrub with olive oil, sugar, and your favorite essential oil. Apply lightly, and avoid too much pressure as you work it into your skin.

3. Choose Cleansers with Care

Avoid foaming cleansers and alcohol-based products when you’re battling dryness. Opt instead for a creamy product that will nourish your dry skin. Any product with cream in the name, or one that boasts of moisturizing or hydrating properties, is a good pick in winter. If you have dry skin in summer, you have to manage a careful balancing act. A cleanser that’s too thick may clog your pores and lead to breakouts. Try a product like Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser or Original Dove Soap for a good all-purpose wash that doesn’t dry skin.

4. Maintain Good Air Quality at Home

Dry air inside the home is a major contributor to dry skin. Consider setting up a humidifier in rooms where you spend the most time, such as the bedroom for overnight comfort or the living room during the day. A whole-home humidifier is another smart option that will give you better humidity control throughout the entire space. Paying attention to the air quality inside your home can help you to significantly minimize its negative impact on your skin.

5. Hydrate Your Body

Give your body a boost of hydration from the inside out. Make sure you’re drinking plenty of water and not loading up on too much caffeine or sugary soda and juice. Packing your diet with hydrating foods can increase your water intake, as well. Cucumbers, watermelon, yogurt, and butternut squash are all water-based foods that will help you hydrate.

With the right routines, you can maintain moisture for a gentle glow, soft skin, and year-round comfort. Incorporate these tricks into your daily habits now and say goodbye to dry skin!
