10 Romantic And Affordable Date Ideas

10 Romantic & Affordable Date Ideas.

I’ve always been a big believer of affordable fun that provides hours of entertainment.  All that's required is being a little creative to have a fabulous time without spending much more than you would on a single cocktail at a bar.

If you’re looking for something fun to do with your date that won't break the bank, try one of these romantic and affordable date ideas...

1. At-Home Massage

Giving a professional quality massage at home really comes down to two things – how the massage recipient lies or sits and incorporating the right products. Extra elements like a sugar scrub, oils and aromatherapy are what make a professional massage experiential.

Get everything arranged in advance and use a massage holster so the products enhance the experience rather than getting in the way. Positioning makes all the difference in the world when it comes to giving or receiving a massage. A massage chair or table is a little bit of an investment, but you're also saving money with DIY massages.

2. Movie Marathon Night

There are only 336 drive-in movie theaters left in the country. During their heyday, thousands of drive-ins allowed couples to cuddle in comfort while they watched a double feature. Today, the movies come to us. Fire up your Netflix, Amazon or iTunes account for a movie marathon date night!

For the film selection, each pick a movie, then a third wild card film that’s randomly selected. Keep the run time within two hours so the date doesn’t turn into an all-nighter (unless that’s the idea, then pick a few more flicks). Go grocery shopping beforehand for movie snacks that are much cheaper at home. Popcorn is an absolute must along with a few boxes of sugary sweet candy. Instead of an enamel-eroding soda, at home you can enjoy a flavored water or adult beverage during the movie.

3. Ladies Night Bowling

Bowling is already a fairly cheap date, but go on ladies night and it’s 2-for-1. Other specials like free shoe rental and half price lane night can also shave a few more bucks off a fun date idea.

4. Enjoy a Day at the Beach

The warm and sunny days of summer are here and enjoying a fabulous date at the beach with your love is a must while the weather is fabulous. All you need is your swimwear sunglasses, beach towel,, sunscreen and each other for a fun, sun kissed date.

5. See the Stars at a Local Observatory

If you live within 20 or so miles of a university there’s a good chance you’re an easy drive away from an observatory. Most of these observatories host the general public on certain nights of the week for next to nothing, if not free. There are also many organizations that hold stargazing guided tours with their own telescopes.

Gazing out into the galaxy using a high-powered telescope is an experience you won’t soon forget. It makes the world seem so huge and small at the same time, and it’s amazing to see what’s out there around us. Go well beyond the craters of the moon and see Saturn’s rings or the big red spot on Jupiter.

6. Go for a Bike Ride

Check out the local bike share program with a sightseeing ride around town together. Typically programs have multiple drop-off and pick-up stations, and they charge by the hour. Plan a leisurely two-hour bike ride where you end at one of the stations near the next point of interest.

7. Picnic in the Park

Enjoy nature and the outdoors and each other by having a late afternoon romantic picnic at the park. The quiet time unplugged from electronics is the perfect atmosphere for sharing your thoughts, goals and what’s been going on in your daily life. It's a date that allows you to really reconnect and focus on one another in a beautiful setting.

8. Visit a Museum

Museums are well known for hosting special events and times during the week when people can come explore for free. The American Alliance of Museums is a great resource for locating museums by location and type.

9. Volunteer for a Day

You’ll learn a lot about your significant other while working side-by-side. Both you and your date will also get a boost of feel-good endorphins from helping other people. Pick a volunteer activity that suits both of your fitness levels and philanthropic interests. Who knows, you may just find a cause you can continue to support together.

10. Check Out a Local Band

Look up some of the top venues in your area and see what’s playing mid-week. Usually, the lineup includes a number of local artists that don’t charge a cover. You’ll get to enjoy a nice music venue and entertainment without paying a dime.
