Natural Ways To Prevent & Treat Sunburn.

During winter we all long for the warm and sunny days of summer as we day dream of patio parties, backyard BBQ's, carefree days at the beach or lounging pool side. As the temperature warms up and we get further into the warm season there is no time like the present to begin protecting our skin from the harmful UV sun-rays, which are the only downside to spring and summer's hot, sunny days.

Instead of using chemical filled lotions, oils, sprays or creams to protect your skin from the harmful effects of sun exposure. We are introducing you to ten all-natural and effective ways to protect your skin from those nasty sunburns and other cell damaging free radicals that cause premature aging, wrinkles and dark spots.

These natural skin care treatments will not only keep your skin healthy and glowing all summer long but they are also edible, absolutely delicious and may already be in your kitchen cupboard, fridge or fruit basket! Read on to find out what they are...

Natural Sunburn Protection Tips

1. Green Tea
This may already be in your kitchen cupboard so all you have to do is whip out those tea bags and brew 4 relaxing cups of green tea a day for at least 12 weeks to help reduce the sun's ageing and cancer causing effects by up to 25 percent!  Plus the antioxidant polyphenols in green tea also protect against harmful UV rays by  fortifying your red blood cells. Green tea is also used as an all natural acne treatment.

2. ChocolateWe are giving you one more reason to enjoy eating chocolate. Not only is it delicious and irresistible but the flavanoid compounds in dark chocolate can protect against skin cancer. Plus they also help to protect your skin by increasing blood flow and and oxygen circulation.

3. Watermelon
This mouth watering, hydrating and decadent red fruit contains beta carotene and lycopene, which help to block the cell damaging free radicals that we are exposed to when spending time outdoors.

4. Tomato
Be healthy not just internally but also help protect your skin from sun exposure by ensuring that your summer salads are loaded with juicy red tomatoes. The Carotenoids specifically the lycopene that are responsible for it's bright color also prevents cell damage to the skin. As an added perk eating tomatoes also helps to prevent breast cancer!

5. Mango
Like watermelons mangoes are an exotic and bright colored seasonal fruit that contains beta-carotene and lycopene to fight cell damage. Next time you're in the supermarket grab a few mangoes or order a delicious mango smoothie instead of a carbonated or energy drink.

6. Apricot
This tasty yellow fruit is one that we wish we could get more off and not just for making delicious cocktails to serve at summer pool parties but also because Apricots contain Carotenoids that help strengthen our skin cells. Ensuring less damage when exposed to the sun's harmful UV rays.

7. Citrus Fruit
Citrus fruits especially the bright colored ones like pink grapefruit and oranges are packed with vitamin C which naturally speeds up the skin's repair mechanism as we tan. So remember to have several glasses of these refreshing fruit juices.

8. Fern Tree Extract
According to a study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology an oral supplement created from the Fern plant increased the ability to resist sunburn at the DNA level within a day of taking the oral supplement. You can find it at health food stores under the name HelioCare or Fernblock.
