'Footloose Star' Julianne Hough Shares Her Fitness Regime With Self Magazine!

Julianne Hough is a professional dancer, served as an instructor on TV show 'Dancing With The Stars,' and she also stars in the new 'Footloose' movie remake. In the November 2011 issue of Self magazine she shares her secrets to keeping that perfectly toned body and washboard abs. Like many of us Julianne gets bored with rigid exercise routines, which is why she recommends mixing up your exercise with fun, outdoor adventures that you enjoy.

On Working Out:
She advises that you mix it up "I vary my workouts every day because, otherwise, I get bored. I always try to run for 20 to 40 minutes on the beach first. Six days a week is fantastic, but four is great, too."


On her alternate methods of exercise: 
"I grew up mountain biking in Utah, and I've been doing it more recently since working in Miami. I crave danger. I find going fast exhilarating! I adore snowboarding, skiing and skydiving."

"...Rollerblading is a serious leg workout! When I have a day off, I want to be outside—unless I'm on my bed with my dogs watching an SVU marathon!"


On her #1 Tummy Toning/Bikini-Ready Exercise
"My go-to prebikini flat-ab move is the plank, all different types."


1. Traditional Plank
"Start in push-up position, palms under shoulders, feet hip-width apart, toes tucked. Push up so arms are straight, back flat. Hold for 1 minute; lower back to start."


2. Forearm Plank
"Get in push-up position, but this time with forearms on floor, elbows directly under shoulders. Lift hips so back is flat. Hold for 1 minute; lower to start."


3. Side Plank
"Lie on right side, right palm on floor, left hand on hip, feet stacked. Push up from right palm to lift hips, creating a line from shoulders to feet, and extend left arm to ceiling. Hold for 1 minute; lower to start. Switch sides."
